Terms of use and membership

1. Agreement

By using trustpractitioners.org or holding a membership you agree to these terms, the privacy policy, the cookie policy and the code of ethics. If you do not agree, do not use the site. We publish the version and date above and record which version you accepted.

2. Membership

Membership is personal and may not be shared or transferred. Free membership continues until you close it. Paid membership runs for twelve months from purchase and renews automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date; you can cancel at any time from your billing page and keep access until the term ends. Seats bought by an organization are assigned to a named person and may be reassigned by the organization when that person leaves.

Prices are stated at the point of purchase. We may change prices for future terms with notice before renewal.

3. Refunds

Paid membership may be refunded in full within fourteen days of purchase or renewal if you have not sat an examination, downloaded a member-only document or redeemed a voucher in that period. After fourteen days, memberships are not refundable, and cancelling stops the next renewal rather than ending the current term. Examination fees are refundable until a delivery window opens; once opened, an unused examination is forfeited. We may refund at our discretion where something on our side went wrong.

4. Learning content and libraries

Courses, guides, templates, registers and the policy library are licensed to you for your own professional use and for use inside the organization that employs you. You may adapt templates and adopt them as your organization's own documents. You may not resell them, publish them as your own work, or distribute them to people outside your organization. Content provided by a sponsoring contributor remains subject to the terms stated where it appears.

DTCF, the Digital Trust Common Framework, is published free under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Attribution is required. Framework names and citations referenced within it belong to their publishers.

5. Credentials

Certificates and certifications are awarded to a person, not an organization, and remain the property of the association. You may state that you hold a credential while it is valid, use the badge we issue, and link to its verification page. You may not alter a badge, imply endorsement of a product or employer, claim a credential you do not hold, or continue to claim one that has expired or been withdrawn.

Certifications carry a three-year term and require continuing education, an annual ethics affirmation and the renewal fee. We may suspend or withdraw a credential for examination misconduct, a serious breach of the code of ethics, or a material misstatement in an application, following the process published with the credential. Decisions may be appealed to the ethics committee within thirty days.

6. Examinations

Examinations are individual work. You may not copy, photograph, reproduce or disclose any examination item, use another person's account, receive help during a session, or use tools not expressly permitted for that examination. We record integrity signals during delivery and may void an attempt where misconduct is evident. A voided attempt does not count against retake limits when the void was our error, and does when it was yours.

7. Your account and conduct

Keep your credentials secure and tell us promptly if an account is compromised. Do not attempt to access other members' data, probe or disrupt the service, scrape it with automated tools, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend access where necessary to protect members or the service, and will explain why unless the law prevents us.

8. Organization accounts

An organization administrator can invite people, assign seats and training, and see assignment and completion evidence for those seats. Administrators are responsible for having a lawful basis to enrol their people and for telling them what the organization can see. Removing a seat ends the person's paid entitlements; credentials they earned remain theirs.

9. Partners and third parties

Some benefits are provided by partners. When you redeem one, you consent to the specific disclosure shown at that moment, and the partner's own terms govern what they provide. We are not responsible for a partner's product, and links from this site are not endorsements.

10. Intellectual property

The association owns the site, its content, its marks and its credential designations, except material licensed from others or published under an open licence. Nothing here transfers ownership. Your artefacts and the work you write into them remain yours.

11. Availability and accuracy

We work to keep the service available and the content correct, but the service is provided as is. Content is professional education, not legal advice; regulations change and your circumstances differ. Decisions you take remain yours.

12. Liability

To the extent the law allows, the association is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

13. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or end a membership for breach of these terms or the code of ethics, or where required by law, and will refund any unused portion of a paid term unless the termination followed misconduct.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes are announced to members at least thirty days before they take effect for existing memberships, and apply immediately to new ones. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept them.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer law in your country gives you the right to bring proceedings locally. We will always try to resolve a dispute directly first.
